Alison Edwards, a junior, is a Angelina's Song scholarship recipient and has been taking Music Therapy courses at Temple University and is starting her second internship at HMS School in Philadelphia.
"Having fieldwork as part of my curriculum at Temple is giving me the opportunity to hone my skills so I can be the best therapist possible in a few short years," Edwards said.
Having the access to hands-on education through her internship has provided "pivotal moments" for Edwards as a music therapist while at the Inglis House in Philadelphia, PA, she said. Edwards met with clients for individual sessions and helped lead a large "jam session" with supervision. Through the power of music, she was able to create connections with her clients and even shared some of her favorite music with them.
"Angelina’s Song Foundation’s scholarship is helping me achieve my dreams of being a music therapist by supporting and inspiring me every day to be the best therapist I can be," Edwards said.
Angelina's Song established its scholarship program to help students pursue a course of study in Music Therapy program at an approved, accredited higher educational institution. The foundation is currently accepting scholarship applications until 5 p.m. on May 31, 2024.
Scholarship recipients will receive $5,000 to support their 2024/2025 academic school year. Funds will be paid directly to the school and applied to tuition or expenses. All recipients can apply to renew their scholarship for up to four (4) consecutive years of Music Therapy study at an approved school. Renewal will be dependent on sustained GPA and updated essay and letter requirements. The fund intends to offer a scholarship each year to a first-time applicant while accepting renewals for past recipients who qualify.
Scholarship funds will be awarded to the student upon evidence of registration in an AMTA-approved, accredited higher educational institution.
Angelina's Song is committed to advocating for music therapy programs, provides grants to children's hospitals to support music therapy, and annually contributes to the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation for research.
